Forest School Assistant training

Forest School Assistant training is designed for people who want to assist and support at a Forest School and forms part of professional development for qualified teachers, early years professionals and other professionals working with children and young people.

The AIM Awards Level 2 qualification is a nationally recognised qualification course approved by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). It provides learners with the skills they need to support Forest School leaders when conducting Forest School programmes. It is based on the principles and criteria for good practice set out by the Forest School Association and students attending the courses are expected to follow these principles.

The course covers:

  • Supporting Learning and Development at a Forest School Programme (3 credits)
  • Skills for the Forest School Programme Assistant (3 credits)

Assessment for the course consists of a variety of evidence for your portfolio alongside practical assessments.

Entry requirements

Participants should:

  • have experience of working with children and young people
  • be able to assist at three Forest School consecutive sessions led by a qualified Level 3 Leader
  • be aged 18 or over
